Illawarra Highlights Tour

Sunday, 15th May, 2011

Our bus will be leaving Blacktown City Council car park at 8.30am. Travelling through the Royal National Park onto the Grand Pacific Drive, the first Illawarra stop will be the Lawrence Hargrave Memorial Look Out. This is certainly one of the best known views along the coast. It is also a popular spot for hang gliding on weekends - so bring your cameras. Lawrence Hargrave was an aeronautical pioneer and Bald Hill was the site of his first attempts at flight.

We will then travel along the cliff hugging roads hanging above the ocean with the 665 metre Sea Cliff Bridge being a big highlight as well as the amazing scenery. Please BYO morning tea which will be enjoyed at a Corrimal comfort stop with beach views.

We will then visit the Australian Motorlife Museum in the Integral Energy Recreational Park at Wollongong. This is a member based organization dedicated to the preservation of motoring history in all its forms.

The next stop is the Nan Tien Temple at Berkeley for a vegetarian lunch and tour of the site. Known as 'Southern Paradise', Nan Tien is the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere. The last stop for the day is a Devonshire Tea at Janet's Royalty Museum at Woonona. Janet has collected over 12,000 items of Royal Family memorabilia.

Excursion cost $35pp for members, includes your bus fare, entry into the Motorlife Museum, lunch and tour at the Nan Tien Temple, afternoon tea and museum visit to the Royalty Rooms. Bookings and payments can be made at the April General Meeting. Please try to book your seat as early as possible. NB. Cancelations will only be refunded if made at least one week before the tour.
