Blacktown and District Historical Society Inc, was established in 1976 and celebrated its 30th Anniversary at a special function in October 2006, attended by civic dignitaries and our patrons.
Our Patrons are the Rt. Hon. John Aquilina MP, George Nicolaidis; Louise Markus MP, Paul Gibson MP, and Councillor Barbara Gapps.
Our Society is affiliated with the Royal Australian Historical Society (www.rahs.org.au) and is a member of ‘Blacktown City Council Combined Historical Societies’.
The Society meets on the first Monday of each month, except January (when there is no meeting) and October (on the second Monday). Meetings usually include a guest speaker and are held in the Meeting Room of Blacktown West Public School, commencing at 7.30pm. Supper is served. Entry is via the gate in Lancaster Street, next to the car yard.
Members receive (11) eleven newsletters per year and “The Turret”, the Society’s Journal, which is published quarterly. It comprises (36) thirty six pages of local, social and the Australian history. Contributions are always welcome for publication. Limited back issues are available for purchase. Contact the secretary (secretary@blacktownhistory.org.au)

The Society is presently compiling a Pioneer Register and would be pleased to hear from any person whose family lived in the area prior to 1900.
The Society has a comprehensive Research Archive, Image Archive and a collection of old maps.
